A tale of a dress that was sent to the naughty corner.
Pattern: Vogue 8805 size 12
Fabric: Thrifted wool, cord and cashmere scarf
Tidbits: Girl make plans for all the red fabric in her stash. Girl thinks these 3 are the perfect match for V8805. Girl cuts pattern pieces without making any adjustments… Girl notices scarf is on the bias, so tries to stabilise with silk underlining. Underlining is partially successful. Girl carries on. Girl adds on other layers and even drafts in hidden pockets. Girl doesn’t try on. Girl lines whole thing. Then tries on.
Oh Dear. Girl posts the sorry state of affairs on Instagram.
Unfortunate in so many ways. Girl takes advice from the gallery. Girl cuts off wayward sleeves and puts the dress in the naughty corner to cool off for a while.
Month later, girl wants to finish all the red things. and sees the dress in a new light. Lets try a deep V, lift the shoulders and pin, pin, pin in all those wrinkly bits. Cue funky darts front,
and rear! Girls finish it off with some binding suggested by Rosie and calls it a rescue.
Lessons: Yes, at least do some flat pattern adjustments first please.
Score: 3/5 pleased it is out of the naughty corner but glad it has to wait til next winter so I can stop being angry at it!
Worn with my cloche and seconded super blokes shirt!
